Physiological adaption to marine heatwaves in macroalgae.
Investigating how kelp physiologically adapts to extreme heat events (Master thesis)
I’m a Master of Marine Biology student at the University of Western Australia, and the goal of my thesis is to investigate and understand how macroalgae physiologically adapt to extreme heat events. This will be achieved by modelling the rates of productivity and respiration in macroalgae, through space and time, to create a forecast on their response to future climate scenarios. Temperatures affect these rates in very different ways, and future predictions will allow us to further our understanding on their resilience to climate change.
